Amana was founded in 1934 as Amana Refrigeration and was owned by the Amana Society of Middle Amana, Iowa. By 1954, Amana had expanded from walk-in coolers to an upright freezer, a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, and air conditioners. In 1965, ownership went to Raytheon, who added the microwave oven.
